Serving In: Madagascar
Ministry: Women Ministry

SAMS Role: Missionary

Home Sending Church: St. James Episcopal Church, Hollywood, FL

Starting Year with SAMS: 2009

Calling to Ministry: As a high school culinary teacher, she was always interested in helping the less fortunate. She took time with the students who needed extra help to guide them. She joined the Episcopal Church when she moved to Florida in 2001. She found many areas to help people inside and outside the church through Episcopal Church Women. She also worked on ecumenical Kairos teams in women’s prisons. In 2007, Jacky attended a diocesan convention as a delegate from her church, and the guest speaker was the Rev. Patsy McGregor. Rev. McGregor is a missionary in Madagascar. Her husband is the Bishop of the Diocese of Toliara in Southwest Madagascar. Rev. Patsy was building a women's center to help them overcome poverty by learning workplace skills. Her speech opened Jacky’s heart and she knew that God was calling her to go and help the women and children.

She participated in three short term missions in 2009, 2010 and 2015. She retired from teaching in 2017, raised the funds to go to Madagascar, and went as a full-time Missionary in 2018.

Mission and Vision for Ministry: To bring the Gospel to the women and children of Madagascar through education and the love of Jesus:

  • Empowering women to overcome poverty by developing their workplace skills, providing self-confidence
  • Developing women’s knowledge of health concerns, crafts and culinary skills
  • Praying with women morning and late afternoon to introduce the importance of daily prayer
  • Providing knowledge of different prayer methods including communal, individual, intercessory and silent.

Personal Points of Interest: The beach is her favorite place where she finds God. She loves to walk, swim and watch the waves go back and forth - just like God’s unconditional love for us. She loves being outside in God’s creation with the birds and animals, the flowers and the trees. Prayer is an important part of her daily life. She is a prayer warrior. She also loves silent prayer and attends silent, centering prayer retreats. When she is unable to attend retreats, she spends time alone to pray. She enjoys reading the Bible, spiritual material from authors Richard Rohr and Henri Nouwen, and mysteries by Agatha Christie.

Favorite Bible Verse: Philippians 4:13
