Janine LeGrand

Serving In: Uganda
Ministry: Health Ministry, Missionary
Home Church: Calvary Church, Kaneohe, Hawaii

Starting Year with SAMS: 2011

Calling to Ministry: Janine was born in L.A. and went to UCLA for a year. Her parents moved to Hawaii and she moved to Hawaii as well with an interest in feeding people sustainably through fish farming. She earned a degree in Zoology and taught science. She moved to Japan to teach for a year and stayed for two more. She continued to teach upon returning to Hawaii and was burned out on teaching and retrained to be a vet lab tech and in medical assisting. The Lord used all the experiences in Janine’s life to call her into the mission field. She works in Uganda in the Diocese of Masindi-Kitara under Bishop George Kasangaki as the Diocesan Health Coordinator (DHC) developing health programs and training community health providers.

Mission and /or Vision for Ministry: Janine develops health programs and trains community health providers for the Diocese of Masindi-Kitara. She ministers to show the love of God in very tangible ways, providing information through text messages, WhatsApp, and through diocesan leaders who disseminate it to the people in English and Runyoro. Her education centers on basics like clean water, nutrition, sanitation, and malaria prevention. As part of her ministry, Janine coordinates short-term medical teams from the US. She also works with and coordinates with the public health teams from the local hospital and the clinics for specific visits and health education initiatives that involve the churches in the diocese. Sharing the Gospel with all those who come to these clinics is an integral part of her ministry and what bring her most joy.
